Tied To The Branches release their third and final recording with the Laser Eyes EP. Recorded in their hometown, San Francisco, and mixed at DPs studio in Toronto, TTTB go deeper into the gothy shoegazey murk with these five songs. The CD version is already sold out but name-your-price digital files are available here.

See the video for 9 Times here.

Or if that's not enough, the complete TTTB super limited USB Pillbox includes Laser Eyes EP, as well as the previous EP (also mixed by DP). Light of Day, It's OK, and every other release, video and demo they ever made. Don't swallow all at once.

"The songs have a drifty and dirgy disposition that evoke in us such a satisfying daydreamy shoegaze state of mind. Such understated beauty and an undeniable integrity. So fucking good!" – Aquarius Records SF

Maximum Rock'n'Roll magazine gives The Filthy Gaze of Europe a rather stellar review:

"Any number of references can be made to begin describing this record, but none of them do the absolute negativity of this music justice. The drum machines evoke APHEX TWIN remixing SUICIDE while the peripheral keyboard noise recall the good moments of early COIL albums. Furthermore, the absolutely deranged guitar aesthetic defies encapsulation, but it's the duelling male and female vocal performance that elevates this record to such a realized pinnacle of nihilistic indulgence. If the vocals of BLATZ and NO TREND with LYDIA LUNCH were added and multiplied exponentially it would begin to sound as visceral and jarring as this EP."

Mammoth Cave Recording Company will begin a reissue program in June, 2012, of the three Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet albums. Each album will be released as it's ready, at approximate six-month intervals commencing with Savvy Show Stoppers — the collection that compiles the band's first five singles. Dim the Lights, Chill the Ham and Sport Fishin' will follow.

Savvy Show Stoppers has been remastered by Peter J. Moore from the original 1/4" tapes and will be released on deluxe 180 gram black vinyl with gatefold sleeve, and for the first time ever, digitally. This release features new gatefold art, liner notes by the drummer of legendary Pacific Northwest music group Girl Trouble, Bon von Wheelie, and the addition of a bonus song from the band's sixth single — a split with the Quinto Sisters.

Eighteen years after their last reverb trail dissipated, the remains of Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet will reconstitute for two live performances this summer. Founding members Brian Connelly and Don Pyle will be joined for these shows by extended-family member Dallas Good, of The Sadies, playing bass guitar. Our brother, S Men bass player Reid Diamond, died in 2001 after a battle with cancer so it is an honour to have long-time friend Dallas playing his parts.

The first show is Wednesday June 20, 2012, in Calgary, AB as part of Sled Island festival, at the Royal Canadian Legion (Alberta No. 1)

On Saturday July 14, the band play Lee's Palace in Toronto, ON.  Tickets in Toronto are available at Rotate This, Soundscapes and the Horseshoe Tavern front bar.

May 1, 2011

May 1, 2011 is the official release date of my first book, Trouble In The Camera Club. Thanks to overzealous online retailers, it’s been dribbling out for the past month but today is the day the birthday candle is lit.

So many people played a part in this book becoming a reality, beginning with Will Munro and Lynn McNeill, who hosted my first photo exhibit at The Beaver four years ago. From there, Greg Dick (who wasn’t then but is now the vocalist in The Ugly!) connected me to Cameron Drew, who connected me to ECW Press – proudly independent Canadian publishers who have doing what they do since 1974. That’s when Diamond Dogs came out so you know that is a long time to survive in the publishing biz.

I’d like to thank my editor Jen Hale for her well-placed advice and enthusiasm, as well as Michael Holmes, Jack David, David Caron and everyone else at ECW Press for supporting my vision of what this book could be – and for making it happen. Some great people contributed in the form of writing – specifically, Steven Leckie for his thoughtful Introduction and Liz Worth, Dallas Good, Gary Topp, Linda Lee Hunter and Paul Robinson for their comments on the back cover. Rachel Ironstone designed the book with Dave Gee pulling together the cover design. Derek von Essen offered many patient and extremely helpful Photoshop tutorials long-distance via telephone and got me started with scanning. Jason Winkler provided much support and made dinner when my hands were gnarled in a claw grip from hundreds of hours of photo editing and restoration. I thank all of them.

I extend my gratitude to all the bands and individuals pictured as well. Without them, it would just be paper.
