TROUBLE IN THE CAMERA CLUB IS OFFICIALLY OUT TODAY.
May 1, 2011 is the official release date of my first book, Trouble In The Camera Club. Thanks to overzealous online retailers, it’s been dribbling out for the past month but today is the day the birthday candle is lit.
So many people played a part in this book becoming a reality, beginning with Will Munro and Lynn McNeill, who hosted my first photo exhibit at The Beaver four years ago. From there, Greg Dick (who wasn’t then but is now the vocalist in The Ugly!) connected me to Cameron Drew, who connected me to ECW Press proudly independent Canadian publishers who have doing what they do since 1974. That’s when Diamond Dogs came out so you know that is a long time to survive in the publishing biz.
I’d like to thank my editor Jen Hale for her well-placed advice and enthusiasm, as well as Michael Holmes, Jack David, David Caron and everyone else at ECW Press for supporting my vision of what this book could be and for making it happen. Some great people contributed in the form of writing specifically, Steven Leckie for his thoughtful Introduction and Liz Worth, Dallas Good, Gary Topp, Linda Lee Hunter and Paul Robinson for their comments on the back cover. Rachel Ironstone designed the book with Dave Gee pulling together the cover design. Derek von Essen offered many patient and extremely helpful Photoshop tutorials long-distance via telephone and got me started with scanning. Jason Winkler provided much support and made dinner when my hands were gnarled in a claw grip from hundreds of hours of photo editing and restoration. I thank all of them.
I extend my gratitude to all the bands and individuals pictured as well. Without them, it would just be paper.

April 8, 2011
I am very excited to announce a new slew of guests for the launch of Trouble In The Camera Club. Mike Belitsky, Sean Dean and Dallas Good of The Sadies will perform a set of the best of first-wave Toronto punk rock.
Joining them will be guest vocalists Martin Farkas of those precocious kids Career Suicide; Chris Colohan, the awesome voice of Burning Love; Damian Abraham, international sex symbol and frontperson for Fucked Up, and the legendary Caroline Azar of groundbreaking musical gang Fifth Column. Teenage Head are spotlighted in the book with a selection of images that pre-date their debut album, and we are fortunate to be joined by Gord Lewis, lead guitarist and songwriter of that band.
The evening will begin at 8pm with Don Pyle's Out-of-Focus Talking Slide Show. A rare live performance by the always epic The Ugly will follow and the evening will conclude with Belitsky, Dean, Good and heavy friends.
The launch is Wed May 4 at The Garrison. Admission is $8 or free with book purchase. More details are here.
